There is a lot of stigma around men needing Behavioral Health Services in Katy, Texas. This is due to society branding men as “strong-minded” or even the “less emotional” gender. But this is extremely inaccurate and harmful.

It is a little-known fact that mental health diseases affect genders in different ways. In this article, Alpha Health Psychiatry will be talking about how depression manifests in men. If you want to learn more, keep on reading!

  • Physical pain

Physical pain that doesn’t respond to any type of treatment is one of the symptoms of depression. While it also appears in women with depression, men tend to ignore this and try to simply “suck it up” for fear of being called weak.

It can manifest as back pain, sleep problems, digestive disorders, and sexual dysfunction as reported by some patients in our Outpatient Psychiatric sessions.

  • Reckless behavior
Some men who suffer from depression may exhibit risky or escapist behaviors such as drug abuse, alcoholism, engaging in unsafe or risky sex, and pursuing dangerous sports.

If you have a friend or loved one who is suddenly “acting out” in ways that are putting their life, and the life of others, in danger, gently encourage them to take a Psychiatric Evaluation.

  • Anger and irritability
If a patient, mild-tempered loved one is suddenly showing signs of irritability, explosive anger, and even a loss of their sense of humor, try to reach out. They may be going through something and are having a tough time dealing with their feelings and thoughts alone.

We understand how difficult it is for some men to walk into mental health clinics to get checked, so we suggest giving our Telepsychiatry in Texas a try. Dial 281-917-0667 for more.
